Lost a point

I couldn't make my weigh in yesterday (because it was Canada day!), so I went tonight and was very excited to see my weight had gone down yet again :-) What was even cooler, is that when I weighed myself on my parent's scale yesterday it said I was only down 1 lb, but I was actually down a tiny bit more than that.

Another boost was seeing Team Sage on the top of the leader board for week 4 of the summer challenge with The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. (You can check out the leader board here).

I'm finding it more and more challenging to eat right. I'm really hungry a lot of time, which I attribute to my running. I'm regularly running at least 30 km a week right now with my half marathon running clinic. That mileage will increase as they weeks go on to prepare me to run 13.1 miles in Victoria on Oct. 11. I've set my half marathon goal time at 2 hours 15 minutes, so sticking to the training is important - I even left a Canada Day BBQ early yesterday to attend the clinic with a few other die hards :-)

But back to the point I was trying to make... I am hungry lots and really have to keep tight control of my eating. With that in mind, I was a little bit sad to re-calculate my points today. I am down from being able to eat 23 points a day to 22 points a day. That 1 point difference may not seem like much, but when it's a 1 point chocolate that helps with my craving, or the 3 point light frap that I want to indulge in that day, losing a point kind-of hurts.

Because of my hunger, I have been eating my full 35 extra weekly points these last two weeks as well as eating up to half of my exercise points. Today was a rest day, so I was a little bummed that I didn't get those extra points to eat.

Although I am feeling a little tired of tracking every little mouthful, I do have to admit that it's working. But because I'm getting tired of it, I sat down and thought up some reasons to keep going, even though I'm tired of "being good".

Here are just a few reasons to stick with it:

- So my legs don't rub together when I walk (one day!)

- The lighter I get, the easier running becomes

- So that I can make lifetime membership with Weight Watchers and be accountable FOREVER

- So that I can set a good example for my girls (Like today we set up a picnic with fresh fruit and cheese and they both said how yummy it was. Neither girl wanted any of daddy's cookies from the pantry, because the picnic was already so good!)

- So that one day my stomach will be flat again

- So that I can run that half marathon feeling light on my feet

- So that I will be ready for the next challenge that comes my way

- So that I can say I stuck with it, even when the going got tough! Just like with running - I'm going to finish what I start

I'm a bit bummed that my team isn't making any progress on that leaderboard, my competitive self doesn't like that much :P

Are you eating 'filling foods'? That makes a huge difference to me. Of course, I still get 34 points a day, so when I eat filling foods for everything, I often don't finish the last six or so points of the day. Or I waste them on ice cream (and the scale doesn't budge. Like this week). When I'm craving something, I try to eat a zero or one point item first (or if it's close to meal time, I'll eat a really low point meal) and then if I'm still craving whatever, then I have more points for whatever the craving was.

...I wish losing weight was as easy as gaining it!!

Congrats on the weight loss and determination! I originally started running to lose weight, but found that sometimes I use it as a reason to eat more. So the fact you are disciplined in both eating and running is a huge accomplishment!

Love your list of why you will keep trying!

Keep running!
